About Megan
Welcome!
My name is Megan. Wife. Mother of four wild children. Endorsed Midwife.
I grew up in Gippsland riding horses, playing netball, spending summer in the local waterholes, going on picnics and family holidays. It was a busy, competitive and noisy upbringing as one of five kids.
I am a mother to four vibrant, beautiful, full of beans, headstrong children! All were born through continuity of care models with Midwives.
Amongst the chaos of a busy family life, I enjoy walking our dog, time with family and friends, beach holidays (I HATE the cold), travel (my time will come to explore the world!), a good book, a solid brunch (not going to lie, love my food), coffee and when it’s time, a cheeky red wine!
My passion for babies started young. One Christmas when visiting Santa in the local shopping centre, I asked Santa to deliver me a real baby…. none of this doll rubbish, but a real live baby. My mum quizzed me on how I would take care of said baby explaining that they are hard work- rubbish mum! I’m made for this! Safe to say Santa did not deliver, but the passion for sweet squishy babies stayed with me.
Midwife life started at a tertiary hospital in 2011 where it was baptism by fire! IT WAS BUSY! Consolidating skills and knowledge, learning a lot and fast! I was exposed to the diversity of pregnancy, birth and postnatal. I witnessed straightforward pregnancy and birth. Conversely, I cared for and supported some of the most complex pregnancies. I specialised in a Maternal and Fetal Medicine unit where I acquired some unique skills. I also spent time in an Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergency department which encompassed an array of challenges across the pregnancy spectrum.
After our third child our little family decided on a tree change and headed back to our grass roots in rural Victoria where we grew up. Surrounded by our village and a lot more space!
Since relocating, I have worked in rural hospitals with lower risk pregnancies which has also offered great learning opportunities and challenges in a different way.
Over the years, I have become increasingly passionate about supporting physiological birth and reducing trauma in Women’s experiences of birth. The current National statistics do not represent a healthy maternity system. Intervention has become the norm.
This is what motivated my decision to choose the Private Midwifery path. To make a difference on a personal level by offering optimal care, support, collaboration and nurturing for the families of our community.
Your family. Your tribe. Your Way.
“In all cultures, the Midwife’s place is on the threshold of life, where intense human emotions, fear, hope, longing, triumph, and incredible physical power-enable a new human being to emerge. Her vocation is unique.”
